"Twitter the eye of the world"
By Maddison Blows
Self and community, what is self and community? what I think
self and community is someone in the everyday life connecting with his or her
community. Like myself connecting to the community that I live in May that be a
town, football club, or just a social group or club, or it may even be a group
u are in on social media such as twitter, all these examples are me connecting
myself into the community which allows me to keep up with the current news in
the town, social media, etc as I’m connected to the current communities. Being
in a self-community does not mean that you are always constantly connecting to
the community, sometimes you could be there but not actively taking part in the
community this is called Flaneur.
When connecting self to community there is always one person
in the community that tends to Flaneur. Flaneur means someone who separates
themselves from the community but not fully separates themselves they kind of
just are in between, they are there in the community and participating but not
a lot, basically someone who watches. For example, in the reading by pouty
which you can find here prouty he says quote” it is like walking throw an arcade
while walking turtles, you are still walking through the arcade but the turtles
are making it slow enough that no one really pays attention or notices you that
much” un quote. I think Flaneur is used on social media quiet a lot, as they
can stalk you without you knowing, follow you but not talk, like your stuff but
never talk, etc all these are perfect examples of Flaneur as the person is
there and being a part of the community but not at the same time, they are in
the middle.
A social media site that uses Flaneur a lot is twitter. On twitter,
you could be flaneuring and not even notice that you are, a lot of people are
flaneuring on twitter as really that is the main part of Twitter. Twitter is
used to Flaneur as the whole purpose to twitter is to follow someone and their
life and be a part of it by simply just knowing what’s happening. Twitter is
the perfect example of flaneuring, You could be following a YouTube or someone
who posts a lot of stuff and they see that your name pops up as you just followed
them, but this does not mean that you have to chat or like their stuff but over
the years your still following them and looking at their stuff, this is the
perfect example of flaneuring as you are there in the tweeter community or
whoever’s page you followed but you are not as you are not commenting you are
being quiet enough to be heard but not been noticed or focused on you are in
the middle you are flaneuring.
